Is it confidential?

In general, YES. Your consult is confidential, and discussions and treatment options will not be disclosed to anyone without your consent.

But it also depends on your age:

  • Anyone 16 and over can consent to their own medical treatment.

  • If you are age 14-15, and you are able to understand and consent to treatment options, then our discussions can remain confidential. But I need a second doctor to agree to this (I can usually arrange this over the phone).

  • Anyone under 14 MUST have an adult carer present.

However, regardless of your age, if I have serious concerns about your immediate safety then an adult carer needs to be informed. If this happens I will discuss it with you first. There may be some topics we can keep confidential. It all depends on the circumstances.
